The Engineering Run

There was a free night in November at the MMT which allowed us to go up and test that our interferometer was aligned properly. Unfortunately the main camera we used, MIRAC, Bill Hoffmann's 10 micron camera was in Hawaii at the time. We substituted Don McCarthy's 2 micron camera. The photos below show images from mounting the camera which, unfortunately, we put onto the telescope after we had already bolted on the interferometer. The garbage can was the tallest thing available that would lift the camera up to the instrument!

Don McCarthy and Patrick McGuire carrying the 2 micron camera.

Lifting the camera to the nulling instrument. This is trickier than we thought!

The run was quite useful! I found out I had placed one of the mirrors wrong on the interferometer and scrambled to fix it before our nights in December . .
